Response to Bards’ Blog Post “How NOT to Manage Your Brand”

Original article can be read here.

Cameos are nothing new to the TGWTG universe - they are here to stay, and the sooner you accept that truth, the sooner you’ll learn to begrudgingly tolerate it, like a health nut tolerates a daily dose of cod liver oil for strength and vitality. :/

That being said, you have to understand: Obscurus Lupa and Diamanda Hagan originally got their start by posting their work on the “Your Reviews” forum, so it only makes sense they would show up in numerous cameos for the up-and-comers; they are the intermediaries between the have’s and the have-nots of the online video contributors of That Guy with the Glasses, and it would only make sense that they would pay their dues by acknowledging where they came from (I can’t really say the same for Phelous, but I guess he can do his own thing - I rank him with Cinema Snob as contributors with legitimate talent outside of Channel Awesome’s microcosm, so there’s really no harm in using his presence to bolster credibility in other people’s videos).

The TGWTG of 2012 is a much different beast than the fledgling TGWTG of 2008. Should the site still exist five years down the road (though I seriously doubt it), it would likely consist of second-rate wannabe contributors and rejects of rejects of rejects, basically a revolving-door admission policy where if you can hold a webcam you’re in.

It’s like that old saying “I wouldn’t want to belong to a club that would have me as a member.”

:P
